Never Too Old & Never Too Late

Joel 2:12-13

“Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.”  Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity.

At church yesterday morning, God placed me exactly where I needed to be and when!

I walked into church a little early, as I like to do, and was placing my belongings down so that I could go and chat a bit with others.  There was a man, had to be at least late 70s, sitting in the pew behind where I was going to sit.  I noticed he was not familiar and he had a newcomer packet in his lap. So I welcomed him as I would do anyone else but this time it was different!  I could see something in his eyes.  I could almost feel his heart.  He was seeking! I stood there talking to him about his past history with churches and the fact that he had never quiet felt ready to give his life over to God for a multitude of reasons.  He asked questions about me, about this church and I answered honestly.  He told me some about his jaded past and I let him know, “it is in your past, nothing matters but today and that you came here”.  I felt a connection like never before.  He was seeking, talked about baptism, his wife who is ill, his reservations and his feeling lead to start going to church again.  It was beautiful!

So like I said, “God placed me exactly where I needed to be and when!”.  Not only do I fully believe God put him in that particular pew because of some similar church history we have but also because of the compassion I have in my heart for people with a past.  But I also believe that God knew I needed that exact experience with this man to spur me on to continue his work.  I couldn’t help but get tears welling up in my eyes throughout the service thinking about what he must be thinking as he is sitting behind me listening and soaking in just what God is wanting him to hear.  Honestly, I don’t believe that I’ll ever go to church again without thinking about it.  Praying that God will use this experience in me a million times over.  Maybe even in that sweet mans life.

So, you’re NEVER TOO OLD, to come to God with a seeking heart and you’re, NEVER TOO LATE, to notice someone sitting in the pew behind, beside, in front or across the building from you.

Lord, You are gracious! I thank You for giving me this life and I thank You for reminding me why I need to continue to be BRAVE! Amen!

Friday’s Question

Where does Satan attack?

Anywhere that has priority over us in place of God!

Where is that place or thing for me?

Psalms 14:4 (click here)

Makes us believe there is no God.

Psalms 21:1 (click here)

Makes us believe that God does not hear our cries.

James 3:16 (click here)

Makes us believe that we can do it on our own.

How do we fight those beliefs?

James 4:7 (click here)

Ask God into your life and the Holy Spirit will guide you.

1 Peter 5:8-9 (click here)

Know that you are not alone.  God is with you, He has placed others on this earth to walk along side of you.

Ephesians 6:12 (click here)

We are not strong enough to do anything without of God with us. Don’t look to yourself but look to Him.

Seek out more about this subject in the Bible.

Lord, Thank you for staying by my side.  For being trust worthy and gracious.  For fighting for me and making me strong.  Please Lord help me remember. Continue to show me signs of your greatness in my life.  Help me to look outward instead of looking inward for my worth.  Show me what it is that You want me to do and make me brave enough to do it.  Please be with all those in this world that do not know Your greatness and love.  Put someone in their lives that will walk beside them. Amen!

Romans 8:26

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

1 Peter 5:8

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Prayer………… Do we take it seriously?  Do we really understand how impactful it can be on our life?  Do we really understand that it can change our life?  Do we really get that God IS listening to  us?  He wants us to come to him with our voice and heart!

If we did really understand, I bet there would be a lot more earnest prayer.  I have to admit that I take it for granted that God is here.  I throw up little prayers wanting God to catch them but how often do I sit and really “be still” with Him?  Like I was having a conversation with my best friend! Speaking and then listening, listening and then speaking.  Dwelling there beside Him, knowing that He is with me. Trusting that He is pleased that I have come to be with Him. Peaceful in His presence!

Our lives would be better and the lives of others that we pray for could change if we took more time with Him.

So when we’re tired, hurt, fearful, anxious, lonely, energized, happy, carefree and loved, go to Him and allow Him to make a difference!

And if for some reason the words just won’t flow…………..then simply “BE STILL” with Him!

Lord, thank you for being you! Thank you for always being a steady flow of love in my life. Thank you for keeping me on my path even when I’m wanting to swerve all over the place. Help me to remember the impact you have in my life and others.  Help me to :”be still” with You! I pray Lord for those who don’t know your power.  I pray that they will have someone come into their lives that will pray earnestly for them. I thank You and love You. Amen!

Question Friday

How do you discern if God is leading you in a different direction?

Psalm 103:7

He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel

Psalm 25:4

Show me your ways, Lordteach me your paths.

Here are three ways God works to move us in a new direction:

  • Disruption of Our Plans
  • Dissipation of Resources
  • Dissolution of Relationships

Acts 16:6-7

Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia.  When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to.

Is God putting things in my path to stop me?

I need to continue to seek God until I have a clear answer.   That may take days or months but I must push forward.

1 Kings 18:2

So Elijah went to present himself to Ahab.  Now the famine was severe in Samaria

Is God limiting my resources for a reason?

I need to remember that even if the resources dry up for the direction I was heading, that if I’m seeking God and listening to him, he will provide the resources that lead to his path for me.

1 Samuel 29:6-7

So Achish called David and said to him, “As surely as the Lord lives, you have been reliable, and I would be pleased to have you serve with me in the army. From the day you came to me until today, I have found no fault in you, but the rulers don’t approve of you.  Now turn back and go in peace; do nothing to displease the Philistine rulers.”

Is God removing relationships from me so that I will seek out others?

I need to remember that there are some things that are meant for just a time and then some things that are permanent.  The Lord knows what direction he wants me to go and he know who he wants me to have in my life.  Proverbs 21:1   In the Lord’s hand the king’s heart is a stream of water that he channels toward all who please him.

So I am reminded………

Psalm 32:8

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.

Dear Lord I pray that you will make clear your path for me and I will hear you loudly and have a willing heart.  I thank You for being ever present in my life and keeping me steady on your path.  Please continue to be with me and my family and my friend.  Help me to seek out those who need you. Amen!

Where Do We Turn Now

Do we need to start over?   Go back to our roots?  Where has the morals that was set from the beginning gone?

1 Corinthians 15:33

Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”

2 Timothy 2:15

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Romans 13:8-10

Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Our worlds moral standards obviously went out the window years ago.  We have become complacent, being more concerned for self than we are our fellow man.  Where did this start?  What were the first actions that took place that began our great country down a road that has lead us to today?

If we were to go back to our roots, what this country was built on and took a good look at where we messed up, could it be fixed?  Personally I think it could.  But we would have to go back to God to make that happen.

God is still in control!  It’s the men and women on this earth that have allowed Satan to penetrate their hearts & minds, who are confusing the issues.

Revelation 21:8

But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

Proverbs 11:9

With his mouth the godless man would destroy his neighbor, but by knowledge the righteous are delivered.

We all need to go back to the Bible. to read more

There is plenty more about who we should be as a nation written in these words.  There is also plenty more about Who we should be turning to.

Jeremiah 29:11-14

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”

In the days that come, where confusion caused by the the master of deception, Satan, wants to grab us and lead us astray, WE MUST STAND FIRM on the promises that we know are TRUTH, God’s Word!

Ask ourselves…….

  1. Who am I laying my trust in?
  2. What am I willing to Stand Firm on?
  3. Who is my Lord bringing up to lead?
  4. What can I do to make a change?

1 Corinthians 1:26-31

26 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”

So I pray……………

Lord, I know that you alone know the future.  I know that you have made this world and your plans will be carried out.  I trust that regardless of mans ways and the pain that our decisions have and will cause, I know that you will carry us through.  I ask you Lord to help the people that trust in you to stand firm.  To draw their strength and knowledge only from you and to be willing to follow through with your directions for them.  I trust in you! I ask you to STOP the deceptions of the evil one from penetrating the minds and confusing the issues.  I ask you to make clear, to those who have been influenced by his lies, where our lack of faith has lead us and how to change our direction.  I trust in you!   Help me Lord be a voice that leads others to you.  Help me to be brave and give me the understanding that I need to fight off Satan.  Be with us in our decisions and help us to allow the Holy Spirit’s leading and have clear discernment.  Amen!

Generations past and upcoming

As I sit here at my desk and marvel at the beautiful day that Lord is showing me, I wonder if my children and grand children know how blessed they are.  How the Lord has been watching over their lives from the beginning of time and how He continues to show them His majestic ways.
I think…………….Am I doing enough to show our future generation who God is in their lives?  Are they going to be able to stand tall and firm on His promises?  Are they going to find their strength from Him?  Am I stepping out of my family in order to bring other families onto His path?
If I don’t, then who will?

Numbers 15:15

The community is to have the same rules for you and for the foreigner residing among you; this is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come. You and the foreigner shall be the same before the Lord:

Psalm 22:30

Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord.

Psalm 33:11

But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.

Psalm 145:4

One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts.
