1 Peter 5:8
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
2 Corinthians 11:14
And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
For more about Satan
Have you ever read the screw tape letters? I love them! It’s amazing how CS Lewis makes it sound like every day life that I walk in and Satan is lurking just waiting to infiltrate my life. He is real, much realer than we would like to believe.
Here’s a few take aways from just a few of his letter.
The Devil is a liar.
Goal is to keep us from church.
Once the Devil has got us in the streets , his battle is won.
He gives us daily pin pricks to keep our mind off of the Lord’s work.
Satan penetrates the mind of the Christian, to focus on the spiritual and off the person so that we’ll be focused on their sins and not on winning them over to Christ.
He makes it okay to have double standards.
Let’s us forget that whatever our bodies do effects our souls.
Encourages us subtly to be self focused so we will not focus on Christ.
Increases our cravings
Makes us think that we can “DO IT” on shear will-power.
Moderated religion is as good as No religion.
Lord, I have no power to fight off Satan without You alone leading me. Help me recognize when he is driving my soul. Help me to keep my eyes on You and love as You have loved. Amen!
How do I reconcile?
I’ve heard it said , “You can never reconcile what you do not recognize”. That make perfectly good sense. How am I going to reconcile a relationship with someone if I don’t recognize that there is an issue? Whether the issue is with me or with them. I must recognize the problem before I can even consider reconciling with them. And then there is the part that the other person must join in that recognition process. We all have a PART to play.
P – Permission to pursue
A- Accountability, Authenticity and Action
R- Remembering the gifts
T- Truth to Power, Transform each other and Trust
Now it’s time to reconcile. But remember, to reconcile means to forgive and reunite with that person. If doing that, puts you in harms way,God does not want that for you.
Lord help me recognize and be lead to reconcile. Amen
As I always do, when I have a 3 day weekend in NC and I had to get with some of my friends. And I was reminded of God’s grace on me.
We must never forget the friends that He has placed in our lives. It doesn’t matter where you are in your walk or your location. A good Godly friend is always there. So with a dinner and some heart warming conversation, I was reminded that I’m not alone……………..EVER! During our 4 hours of conversation we discussed Psalm 36.
This weekend we were blessed with friends for dinner and heartfelt conversation, friends grabbing 40 minutes of time to meet us in a parking lot just to catch up and a friend giving of her God given talents to provide us with some much cherished family pictures. And even a friend giving of himself to help in the time of need with a broken down truck on a Sunday afternoon. God gave us those friends. A friend is a handful of Gods’ grace being handed to us.
This Grace is offered to you also. In the wake of evil or in the midst of evil, Our LORD is always on our side. And has placed those friends in your path to offer that Grace up in handfuls. You are NEVER ALONE!
I was reminded this weekend of how large God is and how plentiful His grace is!
How Precious Is Your Steadfast Love
To the choirmaster. Of David, the servant of the Lord.
Psalm 36 Transgression speaks to the wicked
deep in his heart;
there is no fear of God
before his eyes.
2 For he flatters himself in his own eyes
that his iniquity cannot be found out and hated.
3 The words of his mouth are trouble and deceit;
he has ceased to act wisely and do good.
4 He plots trouble while on his bed;
he sets himself in a way that is not good;
he does not reject evil.
5 Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the clouds.
6 Your righteousness is like the mountains of God;
your judgments are like the great deep;
man and beast you save, O Lord.
7 How precious is your steadfast love, O God!
The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
8 They feast on the abundance of your house,
and you give them drink from the river of your delights.
9 For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light do we see light.
10 Oh, continue your steadfast love to those who know you, and your righteousness to the upright of heart!
11 Let not the foot of arrogance come upon me,
nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.
12 There the evildoers lie fallen;
they are thrust down, unable to rise.
I am Grateful! Amen!
And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
Am I the only one! The only one that wants to make a ‘BIG IMPACT” for the Good? Go Big or Go Home sort of thing. That’s the over achiever in me! Wasn’t really an over achiever in school, just skimmed by, but when it comes to something that I’m passionate about………WATCH OUT! I am passionate about God, I can tell you that for sure and I’m passionate about my family and about the hurting in the world. So I want to make the biggest impact possible. And that is great in most cases but when my agenda of making a “BIG IMPACT” forgoes the “Lasting Impressions” of love, compassion, empathy, forgiveness and my time, then there is a problem.
Will I make a big impact by providing every desire to my family, my community, my church while wearing myself out? Maybe! But will I have the time to sit and listen without my mind going down the check list of “To Do’s”, the energy to help a friend in need or play on the ground with my grand babies? Will I have the time for God that He wants from me, times of reaching out to him in my solitude, searching his word for direction? Will I be still long enough to hear Him guide me, teach me, love me so that I will know what is needed to make a lasting impression on others. Better to make 1000s of lasting impressions than 10 big impacts.
Making a Big Impact is not necessarily a bad thing but without considering the long term, ever lasting impression I make on the lives around me is just not worth it.
Same goes for God! The impression that the Lord wants from us is love for Him, love for others and the energy to live that out. So make sure the “Big Impacts” aren’t void the “Lasting Impressions”.
Lord I need to hear you. I need your guiding words. Help me know your direction for me. Amen!
