Deuteronomy 30:19
“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”
To Live! I mean really live! Not simply exist by waking each morning and going through the motions of your day and then doing it all over again tomorrow. If I choose life, what does that look like?
Interestingly enough, if I google the question “what does it look like to choose life?”, there is actually quiet a few posts on that subject. Here’s a couple. Disclaimer …………I’m not promoting any of them, just amazed that you can find some kind of answer to almost any question you pose to google.
The most important life choice we can make is to choose life. In other words, to decide on core beliefs that will shape our character and define our purpose—the standards and values that determine how we live from day to day, what we believe, where we will be at the end of our life and, most importantly, what will happen after that. http://lifehopeandtruth.com/life/christian-living/choose-life/
What does that look like? Choose life??? I asked the same question. So, to find my answer, I looked to the Author of Life. It says in Genesis 2:7 that “the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” If God is the Author of Life, and He is the one telling me to choose life, that I may live, then I think He should be the one that I should ask. In researching the topic of “life” I found 508 verses found with the word “life” in them. I obviously won’t read all 508 verses. But, we will look at a few verses in which God speaks to us about the topic of life. http://www.creativebiblestudy.com/choose-life.html
But for most of us, to really live life, choose life, it would mean we have to live life differently than we do right now. Because we fear change more than we fear the consequences of our current behavior. But if the Lord created us to really “choose life” than there really isn’t another choice! So today, I will love others like I only have today, I will talk to the Lord as if I’m going to see Him today and I’m going to cherish every minute of today, REGARDLESS of my circumstances. I choose life today! How about you?
Lord I’m peace filled and I’m grateful. You have given me a calm that is not explainable. I ask You to give me the courage to “choose life” and make the changes needed to live it fully. I ask You to help me be the example to others and help them where I can so they are drawn closer to You. Lord I pray for my family and friends. There is background and circumstances in everyone’s life, I pray that they will release those negative influences and allow You to fill the spaces. Amen!
