Hard work

2 Thessalonians 3:10-12 ESV  

For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busy bodies. Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.

Labor Day: “It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country,” the Labor Department said in its history of the holiday.

We have a national holiday in America that gives tribute to hard workers.  Men and Women that are willing to get up each day and provide for their families.  Willing to do what it takes.  There has been many that were even willing to give their life in death for others while doing their work in the military.  Some work tirelessly to educate us and our generations to come so to provide us with the best opportunity to have success in our professions.  Some spend long hours in study and time so they are able to use the knowledge God gave them to heal our bodies of illnesses. While others spend long hours in study and time so they are able to use the knowledge God gave them to heal our spiritual souls.  And many other hard workers, too many to list.

We all get up each day and do our jobs, whether out side the home or in.  Do we do it as if we are working for the Lord, as it says in Colossians?

Colossians 3:23

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,

We should contemplate that question.  We should also contemplate whether we work with the same zeal in the quest to know God.  Do we?  Do I?

So I challenge you today, wake tomorrow with a new meaning of working hard.  Be diligent in your daily toil and examine your  zeal in your spiritual work.

Lord, I thank You for providing me with a profession that I am able to accomplish my work that You have placed me on earth for.   Thank You for loving me. Amen!
