Deuteronomy 6:6-7
And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
Am I the only one! The only one that wants to make a ‘BIG IMPACT” for the Good? Go Big or Go Home sort of thing. That’s the over achiever in me! Wasn’t really an over achiever in school, just skimmed by, but when it comes to something that I’m passionate about………WATCH OUT! I am passionate about God, I can tell you that for sure and I’m passionate about my family and about the hurting in the world. So I want to make the biggest impact possible. And that is great in most cases but when my agenda of making a “BIG IMPACT” forgoes the “Lasting Impressions” of love, compassion, empathy, forgiveness and my time, then there is a problem.
Will I make a big impact by providing every desire to my family, my community, my church while wearing myself out? Maybe! But will I have the time to sit and listen without my mind going down the check list of “To Do’s”, the energy to help a friend in need or play on the ground with my grand babies? Will I have the time for God that He wants from me, times of reaching out to him in my solitude, searching his word for direction? Will I be still long enough to hear Him guide me, teach me, love me so that I will know what is needed to make a lasting impression on others. Better to make 1000s of lasting impressions than 10 big impacts.
Making a Big Impact is not necessarily a bad thing but without considering the long term, ever lasting impression I make on the lives around me is just not worth it.
Same goes for God! The impression that the Lord wants from us is love for Him, love for others and the energy to live that out. So make sure the “Big Impacts” aren’t void the “Lasting Impressions”.
Lord I need to hear you. I need your guiding words. Help me know your direction for me. Amen!
