Live Life: Marking off the List

Matthew 7:21-23

True and False Disciples

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.  Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’  Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evil doers!’

So many times in this 35+ years of walking this journey with Christ, I have seen and experienced the feelings that there is this magical check list and if I mark each item off each day, I’ll make it to heaven.  But in reality, that “check list” is imaginary.  God only expects us to do what He puts in front of us.  He has given us specific gifts/talents and He wants us to use them.  This list constructed by others or ourselves is usually unattainable or unnecessary.

If I’m marking things off my check list, like a “to do” list, I’m doing them out of necessity and not love.

Each and every time I make a choice to do something, then that choice must be made from a place of ………..

“Live Life” for Christ from a heart of Love not of necessity or what you think you’ll gain from it.   And you will find love staring back at you!

Lord I so want to have every action from me to be out of love.   I want to serve my family, my friends and strangers just as You have served me.  With the heart of a giver and not a taker.  Help me to show others what You look like through my actions.  I am far from perfect Lord but I know that Your grace covers me as long as I’m striving to live a life for You.   Please Lord be with my family and friends.  I pray that they will stop living their lives by a check list and only live it serving You with the strength that You have already given them.  Amen!
